Alba-la-Romaine – A witness to 2,000 years of history
Rich with more than 2,000 years of history, Alba-la-Romaine lives up to its name. Discover the two sides that give this charming village, nestled at the foot of the Coiron massif, its unique character. On one side, the hamlet of La Roche proudly displays the remains of the ancient “white city” and its Gallo-Roman theatre. On the other, perched on a volcanic cliff, the Château d’Alba overlooks the rooftops of the medieval “black village.” Its striking checkerboard façades of basalt and limestone offer a unique glimpse into local architecture. An ideal setting to combine relaxing walks with cultural discoveries.
Vogüè – An exceptional panorama!
Nestled into the limestone cliff, the old village—classified among “The Most Beautiful Villages of France”—forms a natural amphitheatre overlooking the gorges, a picturesque site renowned for its outstanding views. The Château de Vogüé offers a memorable journey through history and is well worth a visit. In the old village, tightly packed houses with medieval arcades along the “Rue des Puces” blend with rustic wells and more recent architecture. The Romanesque chapel proudly displays the stained-glass windows of Alfred Manessier, while the riverside beach invites everyone to enjoy moments of pure relaxation.
Labeaume – Labyrinth of cobbled streets
On the banks of the Beaume River, this village is surrounded by cliffs once carved with troglodyte caves. Its pebble-built houses cluster along narrow, winding calades and small passageways, forming a true labyrinth that unfolds like an amphitheatre. The village once had three castles, of which two still remain as significant ruins.
Balazuc – Spectacular !
Overlooking the Ardèche River, Balazuc, listed among the “Most Beautiful Villages of France®,” appears to cling to its rocky outcrop. The heart of the village captivates visitors with its sarrasin-inspired architecture, its carefully restored heritage, and its maze of winding streets, stairways, stone ramps, and archways. Best discovered on foot!
